Malaysia - Khazanah Nasional Berhad (Khazanah)
Khazanah is the investment holding arm of the Government of Malaysia, entrusted to manage the commercial assets held by the Government and to undertake strategic investments.
Khazanah is a driving force in shaping selected strategic industries, nurturing their development and doing so with the objective of pursuing the nation's long-term economic interests.
As we move forward, Khazanah is entrusted to explore strategic investment opportunities in new sectors and new geographies. We aim to manage our investment portfolio to realise their long-term potential, and at the same time investing in what we believe would be future winners.
Our current investments are distributed among various industries, mainly; finance, telecommunications, utilities, communication services, information technology and transportation. We are also venturing into other promising sectors with the vision to lead and develop strategic industries
Khazanah’s Role

To hold and manage the investments entrusted to it by the Government of Malaysia; and

To undertake new investments in strategic, high technology sectors and projects in the national interest.
Structure
As at 31 March, 2005, Khazanah has 11 key portfolio companies and 16 associate companies. These companies are involved in various sectors:

Size of organization
Khazanah employs 140 people curerntly and aims to reach 180 by end 2006. Assets managed by Khazanah is currently valued more than USD16 billion and the market capitalization of companies under our control or where we are a major shareholder about USD52 billion, or a third of the capitalization of Malaysia’s stock exchange.
Khazanah outputs
Khazanah has an eight-member Board comprising representatives from the public and private sectors. Dato' Seri Abdullah bin Haji Ahmad Badawi, the Right Honourable Prime Minister of Malaysia, is the Chairman of the Board. The Board of Directors is assisted in the discharge of its duties by an Executive Committee and an Audit Committee established by the Board. The Management team is headed by the Managing Director, Dato' Azman Mokhtar.Through engagements and representations of its board members, Khazanah plays an active direct and indirect role in shaping policies and directions of industries it is entrusted to lead.
Portfolio of companies and entities within Malaysia
Khazanah is the controlling or major shareholder of key strategic national companies including electric utility Tenaga Nasional, telecommunications company Telekom Malaysia, carmaker Proton, conglomerate UEM Group, toll road operator PLUS, airport operator Malaysia Airports and national air carrier Malaysia Airlines .
