Introduction
The MPB is responsible for the development and implementation of nation fiscal policies including the formulation of the national budget , national fiscal management plan(MTEF), and public fund management plan, government's performance management; and public sector innovation. Role
At the MPB, the NDPE (Non-Departmental Public Entities) Innovation Bureau assumes the responsibility of public sector innovation. More specifically, the NDPE Innovation Bureau is responsible for;
- Preparation of framework policy on public sector innovation
- Supervisory initiatives on the management of 14 government-invested institutions(equivalent to SOEs) and 88 government affiliated-institutions under close cooperation with the sponsoring ministries
- Appointments of outside directors and chief internal auditors of GIIs and relevant positions for other public entities
- Reform initiatives on the governance of public entities including GIIs and GAIs
- Other ministerial services in the areas requiring government's actions in managing public entities

NDPE Innovation is made up of five teams:

- Non-departmental Public Entities' Evaluation Team
Size of organisation
NDPE Innovation Bureau employs 44 staff and currently has an annual budget of KRW 1,152 million.
Outputs
The NDPE Innovation Bureau provides advice to the Minister and proposes policy initiatives to promote management innovation of the public entities. The issues and coverage of the Bureau are quite diverse and challenging. The following are the key outputs of the Bureau;
- Framework policy on public sector innovation in 2005
- Preparation of reform initiatives to innovate the governance of public entities in Korea
- Enhancing disclosure of management information of the public entities by establishing an internet portal site at the ministry's website
- Performance evaluation of government invested institutions(14) and government affiliated institutions(88)
Hosting of various discussion sessions, forums, and meetings between the ministries, CEOs/EDs/chief internal auditors of the GIIs, and the GAIs, to disseminate the government's policy initiatives and share their experiences.
